FEATURED | To the Point

TO THE POINT

Outdoor Recreation Manager 355th Force Support Squadron

RACHEL LUX What does the job of an ODR Director entail? Here at DM, the Director oversees the Outdoor Recreation facility and programs, indoor and outdoor pools, parks and ODR facility reservations, Information, Tickets, & Travel, FamCamp, and RV Storage lot.

What do you enjoy most about your job? I love meeting new people and exploring new places.

What inspired you to become a ODR Director? Helping folks create meaningful memories and trying new adventures is my passion in life. I found out about military recreation in college. I grew up near an Air Force base and I loved the structure of the military. When I found out I could serve as a civilian with the military, I knew I had found my career path.

Do you have a favorite spot in Tucson yet? I have been on several local hikes. I don’t have a favorite one, but I love the gorgeous desert mountain views and the cactus!

What other bases/branches have you served at? I have worked for the military for 12 years and I am proud to have served: Air Force RAF Lakenheath; Army - Fort Campbell, KY; Navy - Kings Bay, GA; Naval Air Station North Island, CA; Naval Station Mayport, FL.

Favorite Cactus? Moon cactus was the first plant I was ever given, I just love the vibrant colors.!

22 // 355TH STRIKE MAGAZINE

What is your favorite place to visit? San Diego has my heart. I love going there for a visit.

What do you enjoy most about the Outdoors? The serenity and quiet mixed with an adventure or physical challenge. I like to be active outdoors.
