The Annual Desert Boneyard Run is being held in the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG) "Boneyard" on Saturday, October 5, 2019. This unique event allows participants to compete in a 10k run or a 5k run/walk through the world's largest aircraft storage and preservation facility and gives the general public an opportunity to see the Boneyard's vast national treasures! 100% of the event proceeds go to a Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) fund that directly supports the military men and women on Davis-Monthan AFB and their families.
The Boneyard Run is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. The 309th AMARG provides depot-level maintenance, aircraft regeneration, storage and preservation, aircraft parts reclamation and disposal in support of the U.S. Department of Defense, allied warfighters and other government agencies. Runners will have the rare chance to tread between the aircraft that make up the largest air fleet in the world, other than the United States Air Force. The 2,600-acre site has nearly 4,000 aircraft and is typically only open to employees and the occasional bus tour.
This event is sponsored by USAA, Larry H. Miller- Dodge Tucson, and State Farm. (No Federal Endorsement Of Sponsors Intended.)

Please read the following information carefully to ensure you are adequately prepared with all necessary forms of identification to receive access to base on the day of the event:
Non-DoD ID Participants
Non-DoD ID participants (those without military IDs/base access) must use the Irvington gate located at Kolb and Irvington Road. You must present a valid photo ID and proof of race registration in order to be allowed on base. All non-DoD ID cardholders will go through a vehicle inspection; please plan accordingly and arrive extra early to accommodate this.
Parking for non-DoD ID cardholders will be available directly inside the gate to the right.
DoD ID Participants
DoD ID participants need to use either the Craycroft or North Wilmot gates. Do not use the Irvington gate. You must show your DoD ID in order to gain base access. Please remember to take your DoD ID with you into the AMARG area, as you will need to provide it as you exit back onto the installation after the event.
Parking for DoD ID cardholders will be available in specified lots off Wilmot and Picacho, on the south and east sides of the Clinic. A shuttle will then transport you through the AMARG gate to the event area.
I’m a senior who does a 18 minute mile on a treadmill. Can I walk this at a leisurely pace, as it’s longer than I’m used to?
Yes, sir! Walkers are welcome to sign up for the race. Because the event has a limited run time, we encourage folks who wish to walk the course to register for the 5k so as to allow enough time to enjoy the Boneyard without feeling rushed. We hope to see you out there!
How early do we need to be there to park? We tried to get into an airshow this fall, and it was hours of backed up traffic. I would hate to have a carfull of participants and not be at the starting line on time.
Thanks so much for sponsoring this.
While we are not expecting quite the same size crowd as the Air Show, we do recommend getting to the gate as early as possible, particularly if you do not have a DoD-ID, as all vehicles will have to undergo inspection before entering the AMARG area. The gates open at 5:30 AM and will be open for 2.5 hours to allow everybody to get in before the Opening Ceremony. We also recommend registering for the event prior to September 18 so you can receive your paperwork packet prior to the event day and avoid having to fill out your waiver on-site.
when registering a team, is the fee for the whole team, or does each individual part of the team still have to pay the fee? Just need clarification. Thank you!
Hi! For teams, the fee is still $40 per person-- the Team option is really for organizational purposes on the day of the event. Hope to see you and your team out there!
